Responsible Kids:

As parents, we want what’s best for our kids. We want them to be caring and dependable— to make good decisions, be trustworthy, do well in school, be productive team members, be respectful to adults and kind to their friends…in other words, we want them to be responsible people.
We do the best job we know how, and the irony is that many of our actions—as well-intended as they are— actually promote irresponsible behavior. Too often, and to our deep frustration and disappointment, we experience our children as sloppy, self-centered, lazy, rebellious, stubborn, and angry. Often, we find ourselves feeling discouraged and ready to give up.
Totally understandable because parenting is the hardest job we’ll ever do, It’s also the most important job we’ll ever do. Here’s the irony though: parenting is the only job for which we have little or no training.
The purpose of this book is to show you, through many detailed examples, 6 effective ways to lead children and adolescents in learning how to become responsible and caring people. All learning is a process, so learning how to become responsible takes time. Each of the 6 ways requires you to spend a lot of time interacting with your children, and each way may challenge you to change the way you presently discipline.
The outcomes are worth it—a parent-child relationship that grows in love and respect, and children who become responsible, loving adults. Today as I interact with my grown daughters’ families and my beautiful 11 grandchildren, I am thankful I learned this process.
