About the Book
An endearing children's book about loyalty, dogs, friendship, and literacy.
Charlotte loves dogs, especially her loving and loyal dog, Lily. And she loves adventure, especially with Lily and her Litter of six stuffed dogs in tow. But she doesn't love to read.
Charlotte has a pesky habit of abandoning a book in favor of a distraction. Paired with her dogs and her bold imagination, that distraction has a way of turning into a grand adventure. But when Lily gets hurt on one of their adventures, Charlotte relies on her imagination and her heart to find a way to love Lily back to health and discovers a love for reading along the way, alongside her most beloved companions.
About our Inspiration
Good Dogs, Great Listeners is a special children's book written in memory of Charlotte Helen Bacon. Charlotte died during the tragic events on December 14, 2012, at Sandy Hook Elementary school. Her parents, Joel and JoAnn Bacon, wanted a way to share their bold and curious daughter and chose to celebrate the way she lived and all that she aspired to be. They collaborated with award winning author and illustrator, Renata Bowers & Michael Chesworth, to write and publish a children's book that would capture their daughter's zest for life and protect her life story. This book has allowed them to continue to be Charlotte's parents and create a lasting legacy.
All proceeds from the book support the Charlotte's Litter™ therapy dog program. Charlotte's Litter advocates and supports therapy dog programs in K-12 schools that help students in literacy, social and emotional learning, and special needs. Charlotte's Litter is one the pillar programs of the Charlotte Helen Bacon Foundation. The CHB Foundation establishes and supports programs that share Charlotte's passion, kindness and tender care for animals, children, and families. Other initiatives of the CHB Foundation include: The Charlotte Bacon Veterinary Education Scholarship, Charlotte Helen Bacon Selah Scholarship, and the Charlotte Bacon Bereavement and Grief Research Initiative. But most importantly, the CHB Foundation honors Charlotte Helen Bacon because her life is worth remembering and her joy will live in our hearts forever.
