Audience: Teachers, Parents, Children

Will, the Word SMART Wizard is the second in a series of books about Dr. Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Will is one of the characters from the series introductory book, Ellie Rae Discovers Eight Ways to be SMART. He is Word SMART and loves jokes, puns, rhymes and word plays. In this early childhood story, we see Will using his Word SMART abilities to enhance some of his other multiple intelligences or SMART parts. As children learn about their SMART parts, they are fortified in their sense of self by better understanding their strengths, valuing the strengths of others, and learning how to work together to grow and learn.

“In 1983, Howard Gardner revolutionized how we look at intelligence and how we see ourselves with his theory of Multiple Intelligences. Working from research, Gardner defined intelligence as problem-solving ability and identified eight separate intelligences. Educators gravitated to this idea because it offered an inclusive way of defining what it means to be smart. Intuitively, a Multiple Intelligences approach respects and reflects the different kinds of potential that we all have.”
~ Thomas R. Hoerr, PhD, Emeritus Head of the New City School, a Multiple Intelligences School, St. Louis, MO
