Alice and Jack Hike the Grand Canyon is a fictional picture book perfect for families with young children considering a challenging hike.
Grand Canyon National Park has almost six (6) million visitors per year (second most visited national park) with less than one percentage (1%) going below the rim. This story describes the journey of preparing for and eventually hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Perfect for ages 4-10.
For spring break, Alice, her brother Jack, along with her Mom and Dad, will be hiking down the Bright Angel Trail to the Colorado River and Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Getting ready for a hike at Grand Canyon National Park means Alice and her family will start preparing four months in advance. Alice makes a checklist which includes having the right equipment and hiking shoes. The family also goes on practice hikes, resulting in Alice having less time to play with her friends until they join her on the hikes. Alice will learn to face her fear of heights since there are sections of the canyon that are steep. The kids learn about hiking etiquette, how to respond to minor mishaps and most of all, have fun. This is about kids valuing the preparation involved in having a successful overnight hiking and camping trip and having an appreciation for this natural wonder of the world.
