Mona Lisa’s Ghost is Nancy Kunhardt Lodge’s second middle grade novel, sequel to The Crystal Navigator. Lucy Nightingale solves a mystery that takes her through the Ghost-infested Catacombs under Paris, back in time to meet with Leonardo, and even into the background of the Mona Lisa itself.
During a class video about the Mona Lisa, Lucy and her best friend, Sam Winter see that something terrible is happening to the painting. The sunny landscape is now engulfed in a purple storm, Lisa is crying, and there are letters floating in her eye. Lucy has a chance to investigate the painting in person when she and her parents go to Paris for winter vacation. In the Louvre Museum, she bumps into classmate Melissa Blackwood, who tells Lucy that she is the reincarnation of the real Mona Lisa and that she has come back to get her painting, the famous portrait that Leonardo da Vinci never gave her. That night the painting mysteriously vanishes. Lucy and Sam embark on a thrilling race against time to find the painting before it self-destructs.
