Celebrating 150 Years of Mooresville History

Charlotte NC –A collaboration project with the students at Park View Elementary, Langtree Charter Academy Art Honors Academy, author Kaitlyn Dorroh, and 2023 Independent Publisher of the Year Headline Books brings local students together with the help of the community and local government to produce this book commemorating 150 years of Mooresville history, Mooresville schools and award-winning high school author Kaitlyn Dorroh write The A to Zs of Mooresville, NC History: Celebrating 150 Years of history and present accomplishments.

Publisher and president of Headline Books, Cathy Teets, said, “The art is done by the students as well as the research. They worked with the teachers at Park View Elementary, the local library, the historical society, and the mayor’s office on a journey to discover and preserve their history. The community gave these young researchers access to archives and historical documents to help them compile this amazing book!”

This book introduces its readers to the Catawba Nation, the early settlers, Revolutionary War history, the founding of Mooresville, NASCAR, the formation of Lake Norman, and so much more. Readers will discover fun facts about Mooresville, interesting places to visit, and the people who have made and are making a difference.

Kaitlyn Dorroh, Headline Books award-winning author, began this project as part of her Senior Capstone Project on “book deserts.” Realizing book deserts existed in her community, she wanted to find a creative way to not only celebrate her community but also help alleviate a book desert area. Books will be donated to children as part of the program. Many thanks to donors and Promising Pages for being part of this important project.

“Learning about our history inspired me,” stated Kaitlyn. “I hope this book will inspire others to dream BIG dreams and to think about the legacy we are leaving for generations to come.”

In the forward written by Miles Atkins, Mayor of Mooresville, he shared with the students that “they are forevermore part of Mooresville’s story, and they are “shaping the history our town will look back on for generations to come.”
